Cheese + zine subscription launched by The Real Cheese Project
The Real Cheese Project has announced the launch of a monthly subscription box, created to big up Britain’s artisan cheese community and get more people buying the good stuff. Inviting the curd curious to embark on a real cheese adventure, each box will come with a new cheese to try, a monthly cheese zine, a hand-picked pairing, a pin badge for new subscribers, and access to an online tasting to meet the cheesemaker.
The first subscription boxes will go out in September, featuring Snowdrop as the month’s hero cheese; a delicate mould-ripened cheese made by Cote Hill in Lincolnshire, which was named Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards earlier this year. Based on the French style St Felicien, Snowdrop’s fresh and lactic flavour profile and smooth texture work beautifully with sharp and tangy accompaniments, including September’s pairing, Limoncello Lemon Curd by Rosalind's Larder in Middlesbrough.
Arriving as a letterbox-friendly package, each parcel will also contain the Cheese Crowd zine, a new publication created to bring cheese lovers, cheesemakers and cheesemongers closer together. The 16-page zine will feature the people and places behind the UK’s incredible artisan cheese scene, celebrating everything from handmade craft and locally sourced milk, through to sustainable farming, affinage and the small family-run businesses that make British cheese so special.
Each issue of Cheese Crowd includes a four page feature on the month’s hero cheese, cheese news, upcoming events, cheese knowledge, recipes and cheese board reviews, as well as ‘Meet the Monger’ and ‘Making a Real Difference’ interviews. The live online tasting will see The Real Cheese Project’s James Grant interview the hero cheesemaker, alongside the maker of each month’s perfect pairing included in the box.
As with everything done by The Real Cheese Project, 5% of all profits will go into a real cheese support fund, which will be donated to initiatives that protect, develop and progress real cheese in the UK. Subscribers will also be supporting the organisation’s mission to protect real British cheese and the people behind it, through research, campaigns and media relations.
Cheese lovers can sign up now at www.therealcheeseproject.co.uk, joining on a rolling subscription for £15 per month, or paying annually for £162. Zine-only subscriptions cost £4 per month or £45 per year, and three, six or 12 month Gift memberships are also available.
