Golden Hooves launches Double Gloucester, following big win at Global Cheese Awards

Golden Hooves has announced the launch of its new regeneratively farmed Double Gloucester, just days after it grabbed the Best Territorial Cheese trophy at the Global Cheese Awards. Landing in independent stores from October onwards, this new wedge on the block will be joined by a brand new range of Golden Hooves crackers.

The latest addition to Golden Hooves’ multi award-winning cheese line-up, Double Gloucester is made using the recipe that was also named Supreme Champion at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards 2023. This territorial cheese has a moderately firm body and a smooth texture, carrying a clean, well-balanced flavour with rich savoury and nutty notes, and a buttery mouthfeel. Rich in heritage as well as flavour, the cheese is a real crowd pleaser and a great melter too.

Moving out beyond cheese for the first time, Golden Hooves’ Sage & Onion Crackers and Rosemary & Garlic Crackers are made using regeneratively farmed flour and butter. Coming in 80g boxes, these rustic and rugged, boldly flavoured crackers have been made for snacking, spreading and dipping. They’re also a perfect partner for Golden Hooves’ cheese range, which includes Mature Cheddar, Vintage Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar, Red Leicester and the new Double Gloucester.

While going home with one of the biggest trophies from the Global Cheese Awards, held in Frome, Somerset on Thursday 12 September, Golden Hooves also picked up a Gold and two Silver awards for its Mature Cheddar, a Gold and a Silver award for its Vintage Cheddar, and a Silver award for its Red Leicester; marking another super successful outing for the regenerative dairy pioneers at this year’s cheese competitions.

Part of British farmer-owned dairy co-operative, First Milk, Golden Hooves farmers use grazing cows to work the land with their hooves, while taking steps to continually encourage plant and wildlife biodiversity, protect the soil and maintain living roots, a process which is believed to remove carbon from the atmosphere and sequester it into the soil. As part of First Milk’s commitment to continual improvement, these activities are supported by extensive research to measure the impact that these initiatives are having on the soil.

Golden Hooves Double Gloucester (200g / RRP £4.05), Sage & Onion Crackers (80g / RRP £3.65) and Rosemary & Garlic Crackers (80g / RRP £3.65) are available from independent retailers across the UK, as well as online at thecheesemarket.co.uk.
